King George Roscoe P-Coltrane the First

King George Roscoe P-Coltrane the First
Viva and Jerry, from Viva and Jerry's Country Music Videos, love our little (relative term) basset hound. Jerry thinks he swaggers like a king, so we all started calling him King George. This is the picture we took of george this year (his crown is from BK) that we framed and gave to Viva and Jerry as a Christmas present.

Feeling the St. Paul PD's Fire and Brimstone

So, I saw a funny news story today in the Star Tribune. Apparently, Saturday night one of the Vulcans from the Vulcan Krewe of the St. Paul Winter Carnival backed their "Royal Chariot" into a parked car and then into a retaining wall. People tried to stop him, asking that he leave his insurance information and instead he sped off!! Did he really think someone wasn't going to recognize the one of a kind antique fire truck that says "Vulcan Krewe" across the side and in St. Paul no less?

Apparently, the St. Paul PD was called and they found the truck abandoned in an alley behind Alaray's Bar later that night. When the investigators spoke to the truck's registered owner he said he thought he hit ICE!? HA And that he didn't recall people asking him to leave his insurance information. Hmm... $20 says the guy was drunk?

It's too bad though, its not the kind of press the Winter Carnival is looking for on their 125th Anniversary. Especially, since this isn't the first time the Vulcans have been in trouble in the last few years. Not too long ago I remember a story about a sexual harassment suit, seems like a few of these guys have been smoking a little too much fire and brimstone.

Great Women's Snow Boots - the Sorel Cumberland!

For a while, I've really needed a new pair of winter snow boots. I had been wearing a pair of handy-me-down, way too-small, pastel purple Uggs (I HATE Uggs!!). Needless to say they weren't all that warm, weren't water proof and "stood out like a blinkin' beacon!" I hated them, but it was all I had.
For Christmas Mike came to my rescue! He bought me a pair of white leather Cumberland Sorels. They are AWESOME! The rubber bottoms keep my feet nice and dry. The interior liner keeps the toes nice and toasty (I believe they are rated for -21 degrees) but its built-in so it doesn't slide out every time I pull my feet out like the Sorels of old. The best part is that it was built with a female in mind. They aren't super Chunky, they aren't super heavy, they aren't too tall and they look cute! It's not a mans boot but fitted to a woman's size, its a boot built for me!

They must be pretty popular, because Mike had trouble finding my size. So I just got them a week or two ago, but they have been so nice! Last week when it was below zero with a wind chill even lower my toes were the only thing that wasn't cold. I absolutely adore them and would recommend them to anyone who was looking for a new pair of boots, check them out!

Super Bowl 45 Bound!

We're Super Bowl bound, I cannot believe it! How exciting, I still remember the first one I ever saw. We watched the game at a friend's house down the street from my folk's old house. We ate Swedish meatballs which were new to me and my mom won a bunch of money on the grid games - which was somewhat amusing because my mom, bless her sole, doesn't know much about football. 1997 it seems so long ago and we haven't been back since 1998.

I am totally psyched. I am already trying to figure out what I will serve at my Super Bowl party because I am totally having one. No Swedish meatballs this time. Taco dip probably. Maybe nachos instead. Last year we had a taco bar, so maybe something like Italian Beef (mmm got to get my friend's recipe) or subs. Nothing better than a Cousin's Party Sub at a Green Bay Packer Super Bowl Party. I'll have to have a grid pool too - how to sneak that around at work? :)

The best part is we'll be playing another team that I like, the Steelers. So often the other team in the Super Bowl is a team I hate - like the Ravens. Who wants to watch that? Although it does make rooting against them much more satisfying. This will be great, it will make the whole game more exciting. Hooray! I can't wait!

Meet Rocky

George and I met Rocky at Chuck and Don's when we volunteered at the Basset Buddies Rescue's Meet and Greet at the Highland Park location in St. Paul. (Last Sunday of every Month! Come see us!) Rocky is a very sweet Basset. He's 9 years old and looking for a forever home. (He's actually quite a spunky 9 year old, likes to play with his foster retriever sibling.) In the meantime, he's staying with a very nice lady who specializes in fostering senior citizens. She usually fosters retrievers but happened upon a friend of Rocky's on Pet Finder who helped her meet Rocky. So she appreciated my insights on the breed. (Try explaining the bassets to someone whose not used to bassets, its comical - such a silly breed.) HA! It turns out, I found out later, that the woman fostering Rocky is actually one of our neighbor's mom - and we had no idea! Small world. But Rocky is a very sweet, mellow boy who is more than happy to snuggle with you or melt into your hand as you scratch his ear, so if you have a little room in your heart and your home, please check out Rocky today!

Where do they find these people?

So, I swear my company (who will remain nameless) has a history of finding some odd ducks to add to our staff. The one that takes the cake is this dude Paul, he's part of our digital sales team. When you Google him, which should be the first thing on any HR rep's list of things to do when reviewing a prospective employee, LITERALLY the first thing is the following: "Paul Singman is a Deadbeat"

You'd think that would give you pause, but I guess not - because they hired him. Granted you cannot believe everything you read on the "internets" but its not what you call a "good impression".

I think Paul needs to work on his SEO skills and figure out how to push that down the search list. HA! :)

Gone a while...

Recently, I've realized how much I haven't blogged and thought I should start up again. I also realized that this has gone from being strictly about our house to life in general ("...its one in the same..."). Although, really its all the same thing, because you cannot live in a house and fix it up without life getting in the way every once in a while. So cheers to updating our house and dealing with the detours that sometimes get in the way. :)
