Does this look like the face of a trouble maker? OK, maybe it does, but that's not the point. The point is, who could ever harm such a sweet innocent rodent? Well... apparently Douglas Dokken, 60, can. The St Thomas professor and UMN Regent took umbrage to the gopher's shenanigans which resulted in screaming children fleeing the crime scene.
Seriously speaking the whole idea cracks me up, but I take offense to someone attacking my favorite mascot. I applaud the athletics department for banning him from events for a year. Personally, I think Goldy should take out a long term restrain order against Dokken so that he can no longer attend university events where Goldy is present - that's what you get for making Goldy your furry foe. According to Goldy's coach, even after being punched twice Goldy didn't retaliate and instead scurried out because "Goldy doesn't fight" unlike some people.
The article on the Star Tribune site is pretty funny. It is definitely worth the read. Some of the quotes are priceless - "The kids went from laughing to screaming because they were right there," Elder said. Goldy put up his hands, err, paws. "He was shocked," Elder said. "Then the guy stands over him and punches him again." What can I say, I'm waiting for the press conference.
